Where I come from and what I value—my DNA…

Egyptian, North African, Arab—and a researcher, by choice. I love the hunt for new things and the challenge of outdoing yesterday's me… In research, I find my identity…

Roots & Journey

I was born in Cairo in 1993 and have been living in the US since 2022. I was fortunate enough to live, for a very short time, in Italy during my Ph.D. years…

What brought me here was a thought at 2 a.m.: should I pursue a doctoral degree, or settle for my master's as the furthest I could go? It was me talking and praying to God for guidance—I couldn't afford the regret receipt of not going all the way, yet, at the same time, I trust God's plans. Unapologetically, I emailed 300 professors—it was hard to land an opportunity if you weren't already in academia; I was just an engineer. Long story short, I had one month to get an offer to pursue my Ph.D., or accept what was written for me. I think we now know the answer to my prayers…

وَقُل رَّبِّ زِدْنِي عِلْمًا ﴿١١٤﴾

“And say, ‘My Lord, increase me in knowledge.’”
Qur'an, Surah Ṭā-Hā 20:114

What it means to me: knowledge has no finish line. Even the Prophet ﷺ was told to keep asking for more, so I keep asking, keep learning, and stay humble about how much is still unknown.

“And that there is not for man except that [good] for which he strives. And that his effort is going to be seen—then he will be recompensed for it with the fullest recompense.”
Qur'an, Surah An-Najm 53:39–41

What it means to me: effort is never wasted. What's yours is what you work for, every effort is seen, and the reward comes in full, even when it's not on my timeline.
